Topic: Fraud at East side Maharaja Grocery Store
Posted By:   A L 2012-01-10
The grocery store advertises different prices and charges different prices in the store. Sometimes they even double charge for items. When you pay attention to your bills you will be surprised with the kind of fraud the store does! When asked about the fraud, store owner is simply rude and yells at his customers.

I live on the east side but go to Asian store for vegetables and west side stores for groceries. I use to go to Swagat on west side but noticed that he too was selling expired goods. some jam bottles and pickle bottles were expired couple of years back. When i brought these to his attention he said he will remove them. but when I went there the next week he was still having them. I then brought this to the food department notice. looks like they have taken care of it. now he has new products. I am sharing the email which i got from them so that you can make use of this if required. ----------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for contacting the department of health services with your complaint. Retail food establishments are regulated by the department of agriculture, trade and consumer protection. I’m forwarding this complaint on to Tim Anderson, his number is 608-224-4716 and he will forward this on to the Public Health Madison and Dane County for follow-up. Hope this helps. James Kaplanek Chief Food Safety and Recreational Licensing James.Kaplanek@wisconsin.gov 608-261-8361 -------------------------------------------------------- Incase you find expired goods, just dail in that number you dont have fight on the forums. They will decide whats true and whats not true.

I heard from a person who told him that the prices were high he asked them to go to chicago and buy if they feel he sells at a higher price

I agree with many people here. This guy was very rude.We moved to madison recently and found this guy to be rude. looks like he is behaving well after this thread. regarding the prices. I get a bag of rice for 19 $ at west side but he sells the same bag at 24. I mean the swad sona masuri rice. He brought the Yogurt drink cans recently. We go to the west side to buy them at the asian store or India house where they sell them at 4.79 &4.99 respectively but this guy has priced them at 6.49 or 6.99. isnt that a high price? Why do you want to buy rotten tomatos at 1.99$ a pound when we can buy them at 99cents at Hyvee?

Mr. Raman Paul, Thanks for giving me a credit of being a Business Owner which i am not. How about visiting the store and tell the owner about this issue. And how about telling him all the same crap that you are typing on the forum. I think this would make more sense and help the community. Be a man...I am productive Man.

Remember one thing Mr KULDEEP DANGO (assuming you are the owner of MAHARAJA) !! If we behave like a REAL AMERICAN you will be eating JAIL food by now from DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS. Because as an american, I will SUE MAHARAJA for selling OUT OF DATE food (which can be toxic). It just takes one paper and 10min to file a complaint to FEDERAL. But am not an american. BE PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN !! I pity you.....!!!!!!!!!!! Please don't try to exploit your co-citizens.

@Kuldeep dango - If you are not the owner of that store, why would you worry about Santosh's Post ? He shared his experience walking thru the store...
You need not have to tell him how to live in America..OK..May b u hav the propensity of buying expired goods for less price nd so bracing the store...
Yes, I work for an IT company and has a complete sense of wat iam doin....Your seem to be unethical in ur attitude, profession and looks like u have no sense in wat u post and so u r asking someone to get Indian grocery from India and not to buy in USA... One wud chuckle at ur innocence...

I even had the similar experience with that store and so I agree with Anita's post.... GO GET A LIFE....

@kuldeep dango and Sharat Kundoo: It’s obvious you are the same guy and an alibi of store keeper or the store keeper itself. Rather defending your cheap tricks (touch wood wtf) improve the quality of service. If you try to say I am not the guy from store, here is the reply, if you are not the store guy; no one takes it so personal calling a person “Lady Bhim”. And you are talking about ethics here.

EAST OR WEST WOODMANS IS THE BEST...!! Life is short.

Sameer,Seems like you are talking to me as if i am the owner of the store. I have better things to do than to argue with you. Visit the store and give ideas to the person working there. This would be more productive for you. There is much more than what is not done in ethical way. If you work for an IT company, check yourself before you go for others. You would know the real meaning of ethical.

@Kuldeep dango: I wonder if your post makes any sense to someone reading...This place has everything I look for in a grocery store that I would never go to !
I can tell you atleast 4 reasons why someone has to think twice before walking into your store - 1. Selling outdated bad smelling junk food, which can be revealed only when it is unpacked. 2. Merchandise price Vs items billed always vary 3. The billing price is different from the labelled price 4. Rude behaviour of the sales person with the customer..
I wud rather recommend you to write some productive program code and earn money but not cheat your customer....I bet you cannot do both....Remember that this is not acceptable in America where the business is done in good faith, not through unethical means.
If we ought to live like an American, it wuld have been a longtime, shutting ur business permanently... Act before some register a complaint through your city's department of health or board of health. FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS...DON'T CASTIGATE THEM..

Yes, and he showed to the sign right behind his counter! I have been here before the inception of east side store. I did not have to post one until now! I have seen better Madison Indian store, and I am willing to put extra effort to make my home town a better place.

From your rude behaviour you seems to be a trouble maker. They took th expired stuff, to show the customer service and even tossed the stuff coz it was opened. Did you try returning the expired stuff at the store.

I am not supporting anybody, just giving my view. I have been in Madison for last 24 years. Have experienced all the desi stores aroung WI.

Looks like you are supporting the rude behavior than helping. BTW, did I ask for your help?? I have to agree with few other madindians, he does sell expired items as I found some in my recently bought list. Why would they take expired items from other stores unless they are confident of reselling them?

I bought ashirvaad atta and sona masoori on sale. 9.99 22lbs and 33.99 for 2 bags of sona masoori. great deal. I already saved 21 dollars there. I came from West side. They unloaded fromt the swad truck and i was the first one to get the  deal. they have better deals compared to west indian grocery stores. Dont mind driving 12 miles to get fresh and discounted products. They even helped me to get the expired stuff returned which i bought from Chicago Devon, they simply gave me fresh product and took my expired. So far no issues touch wood. I dont like Mexican guy who works on Mondays.

Call those companies and ask about the hidden fees. Not the people on the forum! Do not preach! forums are to share experiences.

All stores are same east/west/south/north. If you have extra time, pay attention to all your home bills too. My wireless,Cable,Credit Card provider charged me hidden prices. What to do.?? In India also they mix different chemicals in Red Pepper,Haldi, colour the vegetables. Atleast we are in better country.

I think the best for you is to get indian grocery from India and not to buy from USA, they are cheap in India. Patel Bro's charged me 2 bags of Atta instead of one. I feel sorry for you. Did you recently move to USA. Seems like you wanna keep track of each penny.Dont tell me that you convert dollars to INR each time you go shopping. My sincere suggestion, you would go mad if you count pennies and spend your time in counting everynight. Leave this desi mentality and you would be happy in your life, that what i did when i came to USA and now I am happy.

I would rather write a productive program code and earn some extra GREEN DOLLARS from the client instead of updating forums with your desi experiences of counting and converting pennies to INR.

Welcome to Desi World of USA. If you are in USA, live like an American not Desi or else we all need to go to mental hospital which insurance does not cover.

Happy New Years Everybody..!!

All the Priya products he sells were expired and i notified him long back but still they sell those goods which are expired back in november. He sells liquor for more price than it should be.The receipt which they provide is not legally acceptable and so he charges few items(no description of the items in the bill) double time which we cant recognise at that time, later on he yells at the customer. I recommend everyone not to get yourself robbed by going there.

Apart from being rude to customers he also sells products of expired dates. Please look into the expiry dates who ever checks into the store.
